Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece and American Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt visited this morning the “Dimitrios” Hobby Center of the “Apostoli” NGO.
On the occasion of Independence Day, July 4, the US Embassy decided this year to offer four hundred portions of food for the structures of “Apostoli” NGO, as the traditional big reception at the embassy will not take place due to the pandemic.
The General Director of “Apostoli”, Mr. Kostis Dimtsas, welcomed the Archbishop and the Ambassador and expressed his joy for this celebration, emphasizing the good relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Pyatt thanked the Archbishop for the four years of friendship, cooperation and open dialogue and praised his role during this period of the pandemic. “Your decisions have saved lives,” the Ambassador told the Archbishop.
The Archbishop then thanked the Ambassador for his contribution, and referred to his trip to America, when he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Boston, expressing his emotion for the love of the expatriates.
Speaking about the pandemic that afflicts our country, the Archbishop pointed out that “the canons of the Church say that the first value is man and we must serve him”, while he also spoke about the need for cooperation between Church and State for the benefit of people.
