Archbishop Yevstratiy Zoria made a particularly important and meaningful statement regarding the election of Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb and Ljubljana as the new Patriarch of Serbia.
After the election of the new Patriarch of Serbia, Archbishop Zoria, a high-ranking hierarch of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine and a close associate of Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, commented on the news via a post on his personal Facebook account.
The Archbishop made comments regarding the argument of some that the new Serbian Patriarch is a supporter of Moscow.
He cited as an example that some considered Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria “a key ally of Moscow”, as well as Cyprus and Greece.
In particular, the Archbishop commented:
To those who argue that the new Serbian Patriarch is a “supporter of Moscow” and the “Serbians allies of Russia”, try to prove that “should not” greet the newly elected Patriarch and wish him all the best, I will answer:
- It has not been long since they considered Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria as “Moscow’s main ally”
- It did not take long for the polls in Greece to show that Putin had the highest percentage of acceptance among EU countries, about 60%
- It has not been long since they claimed that “Cyprus is an ally of Moscow” and that “there is a lot of Russian money and influence”
Now we are all happy with the support of the Church of Alexandria, Cyprus, and Greece. And it did not arise “suddenly”.
And we could continue to mourn, and to anyone who is not our ally, to see only an enemy.
Each long course starts with one step. And better to be one step closer to the other.
