On the day of the Great Feast of the Epiphany, Metropolitan John of Zambia officiated the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Chapel of the Metropolis of Zambia. Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Metropolitan performed the Service of the Blessing of the Waters.
The blessing of the waters, also known as the sanctification service, is an act of the Orthodox Church but the sacred miracle performed is as great as the Church itself. This miracle touches two thousand years millions of souls of Orthodox Christians, cleanses them, sanctifies them and gives them health and immortality.
The Service of the Blessing of the Waters on the day of the Epiphany is an old sacred tradition of our Church. It is noteworthy that wishes for the blessing of the waters were also found in ancient texts.
