The Metropolis of Trikka and Stagoi announced the passing of the former Metropolitan of Trikka and Stagoi, Alexios.
The Metropolis will provide further details regarding the funeral service.
As reported by local media, the Metropolitan was hospitalized in the pathology clinic of Trikala Hospital for about a week with respiratory problems, having underlying health conditions, but his health condition deteriorated as he suffered pulmonary edema. So the Metropolitan underwent a COVID-19 test, which came out positive.
His condition, however, was aggravated very quickly, and he reposed in the Lord on Monday morning.
Who was Metropolitan Alexios
Former Metropolitan of Trikka and Stagoi Alexios (born Theodoros Michalopoulos) was born in Piraeus in 1932. He graduated from the Theological School of the University of Athens in 1960.
He became a monk in the Monastery of Penteli in 1954 while he was ordained a deacon in the same year in the Church of Saint Konstantinos in Piraeus by the late Bishop of Marathon, Damaskinos.
He offered his services as a deacon in the Holy Metropolises of Xanthi and of
Piraeus.
He was ordained an Presbyter in 1961 in Xanthi by the late Metropolitan of Xanthi, Antonios, and was ordained an archimandrite the same day.
On October 1, 1981, he was elected Metropolitan of Trikka and Stagoi.
In 2015 he stepped down as Metropolitan of Trikka and Stagoi.
