An online forum entitled “Hear the Cry of the Earth: Integral Ecology in Action” was organized by the Institute of Ecumenical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University, as part of the 13th Ecumenical Social Week.
During the forum, which took place on October 7-10 in Lviv, Ukraine, an international conference took place. An international seminar was held in two sessions of the Ukrainian Christian Academic Union, dedicated to the topic “Securing God’s treasure: Sustainable development and maintenance of the creation” as well as a series of round tables and open discussions “Green” urban lifestyle, biodiversity conservation, eco-journalism and the role of the Church in ecological consciousness.
The forum was attended by speakers from eight countries, Ukraine, Germany, France, Greece, USA, Austria, Vatican and Canada.
Representatives of educational and religious institutions, universities, government agencies, youth organizations, businesses, theologians and priests spoke on the issue of inclusive ecology, seeking answers to current environmental challenges.
The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s message to the participants of the forum is remarkable, in which it is emphasized that “this year’s various events and comprehensive programs are dedicated to the importance of ecology for the life of the Church and the prosperity of the planet. Distinguished speakers from the Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant Churches gather to proclaim and promote the protection of God’s Creation. We are pleased to learn of the common concern in Ukraine and, of course, of the close cooperation between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Catholic Church, which envision the transformation of the world for the benefit of the universe.”
