The Deputy Chairman of Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of the Moscow Patriarchate Archpriest Mykolay Danylevych, commented on the Bishop Makarov Gideon’s deportation.
“There are many questions on this incident. Obviously, the issue of citizenship-deprivation has nothing to do with the loss of the passport (…) It is known that Ulana Suprun (Ukraine’s Minister of Health) has an American and Ukrainian citizenship and no one deports her from Ukraine. Even the Head of the Uniates, Sviatoslav Shevtchuk, stated that he has a passport of Vatican as well. No one sends him to Rome, though”, stated Archpriest Mykolay.
“It seems that there is a selective application of the law” added Archpriest Mykolay. “Our Church shall support Bishop Gideon to legally solve the issue”, stressed the Deputy Chairman of Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
Finally, Archpriest Mykolay Danylevych added: “Bishop Gideon should return to the country where he was born. His parents live in Ukraine, and he is Ukrainian”.
