The Costas and Mary Maliotis Cultural Center at Hellenic College Holy Cross in Brookline, MA, and the Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece, have announced a new collaboration to bring Greek cultural exhibitions to American audiences. This partnership aims to highlight Greek history, language, and art, marking a significant step in promoting Greek cultural heritage in the United States.
The Maliotis Cultural Center, a key institution for Greek cultural education in the U.S. since 1974, has expanded its reach since its 2020 renovation, becoming a leading hub for Hellenic culture in the country. The Benaki Museum, one of Greece’s most prominent cultural institutions, is known for its vast collection of Greek and international art and artifacts. Together, these two institutions will present a series of exhibitions, lectures, and events designed to deepen the understanding and appreciation of Greek culture.
The first exhibition, featuring the works of Greek photographer Voula Papaioannou, will showcase images of life in Athens during and after World War II. The Benaki Museum has also gifted the Maliotis Cultural Center with a collection of reproductions from Albert Meyer’s rare album “Olympic Games 1896,” documenting the first modern Olympic Games in Athens. This collection will be on permanent display at the Maliotis Cultural Center starting in August.
The public, cultural institutions, and the press are invited to the opening of the “Olympic Games 1896” exhibition. Further details about upcoming exhibitions and events will be announced soon.
