A concert of traditional compositions arranged for symphony orchestra, choir and tenor was held with great success yesterday afternoon for the first time in the framework of the International Scientific Conference for the 100th anniversary of the journal “Theologia” (Theology).
The concert took place in the “Alexandra Trianti” hall of the Megaron Athens Concert Hall. At the invitation of the Holy Synod and its President, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus, Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, the representatives of the Orthodox Churches who participate in the International Scientific Conference, the members of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education Georgios Kalantzis, as a representative of the Government, Ambassadors, Ministers and more than 1300 spectators attended the event.
The Concert featured songs from the traditional music of Greece, arranged by Evangelos Yamouris (tenor, musician), including elements from musical cultures of other countries. It is a special musical combination of the folk Greek music and the westernized timbre of the symphony orchestra, using Greek and other traditional musical instruments.
These compositions highlighted the musical universality of the traditional Greek member, whose roots go back to ancient Greek music.
The concert also featured works for solo piano, as well as works for orchestra and tenor.
