The Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodore II visited the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, and briefed her on the establishment of the Hellenic Academy, which will be hosted at the Alexandrian Averoff Foundation.
The aim of the Academy is for the younger generation of Greeks and Egyptians to be taught and to have as space to study, through seminar circles, topics of Greek culture and history, as well as the Greek language.
Patriarch Theodore informed the minister about the renovation of the Patriarchal Library by the A.G. Leventis Foundation. He asked her – note that the minister holds the Patriarchal Offices of “Archontissa” of the Treasury of the Patriarchate of Alexandria- to assist in the promotion of the Library, which contains 5,500 rare manuscripts and codes.
The Patriarch of Alexandria also requested the minister’s mediation with the National Bank in order to transfer the historical archive of the ancient Patriarchate, hosted by the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank (MIET), in the Metochion of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Athens.
