The Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Chardalias, appealed to the faithful to observe the social-distancing measures in the churches during the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God on the 15th of August.
“The Feast of the Dormition will be different this year. We will celebrate it as the conditions require, observing the rules recommended by the experts and as Archbishop Ieronymos stressed in a recent statement,” he pointed out.
Moreover, he reminded the measures which are in force:
– One person per 5 sq.m. is allowed in the churches keeping a minimum distance of 1.5 meters.
– The maximum number of people allowed in churches over 500 sq.m. is 100 people.
He said that a text message would be sent from the number 112 within the next 24 hours to all citizens of Greece. Special emphasis will be placed on areas with the highest reported COVID-19 activity, where special measures will be taken. The citizens will be soon informed about the new measures. Finally, he appealed to everyone, especially to young people, to be disciplined, so as to prevent the government from taking more drastic measures, which would be disastrous for Greece’s economy.
