Archbishop Elpidophoros of America was warmly welcomed in Argostoli on the first day of his historic visit to Kefalonia.
The first stop early Tuesday afternoon was the Argostoli Orphanage “The Savior” where the Archbishop, accompanied by Metropolitan Demetrios of Kefalonia, met the people of the Orphanage’s administration and the children living there, speaking to them with warm words.
Afterwards, he visited the Municipality of Argostoli, where he was welcomed by the Mayor of Argostoli Theophilos Michalatos, but also by members of the Municipal Authority, such as the President of the Municipal Council of Argostoli Nicolas Vallianatos, the Deputy Mayor Spyros Samouris, the Deputy Mayor Spyros Matiatos, the President of DIADEYADK and the Chamber of Commerce Stavros Spathis, the President of OKAP Michael Moschonas, the President of the Local Community of Argostoli Theodoros Alysandratos.
And there the reception was warm with the Mayor of Argostoli, Theophilos Michalatos, exchanging memorabilia with Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.
Afterwards, he visited the Regional Unit of Kefalonia and Ithaca, where he was welcomed by the Vice-Regional Governor Stavros Traylos, exchanging memorabilia, while the first day in Kefalonia ended with a visit to the Metropolitan Palace, where Archbishop Elpidophoros met the priests of the island.
The Archbishop of America was accompanied by the president of the community of St. Gerasimos in Manhattan, Gerasimos Athanasatos, the president of the Association of Kefalonians “Aenos” Vassilis Kokosis, expatriates from Kefalonia living in the USA, the proistamenos of St. Gerasimos in Manhattan, Fr. Panagiotis Papazafeiropoulos, the proistamenos of the Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen in Brooklyn, Fr. Evagoras Konstantinidis, the Archdeacon, Dionysios Papiris, members of the Order of the Lords of the Apostle Andrew of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Leadership of 100.
Today (Wednesday), Archbishop Elpidophoros will visit the Naval School, the Nursing Home, the Municipal Nursing Home of Argostoli, and the Holy Monastery of St. Andrew of Milapidia.
