The opening of the two-day conference of the branch of the Europa Nostra International Foundation in Turkey with the co-organization of the Ecumenical Patriarchate was proclaimed by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The Patriarch thanked the members of the two-day conference for their contribution to include the building of the Orphanage of Prigipos island in the central organization Europe Nostra, among the wooden buildings that are in danger of collapsing and belong to the category of the listed historical sites.
He also wished for the resources needed for the restoration, maintenance and repair of the building to be found as soon as possible, so that it can be used as an Interfaith Center and Study Institute for the Protection of the Natural Environment of the Mother Church.
In his message, the Ecumenical Patriarch also pointed out that cultural monuments do not belong to a particular nation or religious group but to the whole of mankind.
The work includes members of Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as representatives of the European Investment Bank.
