Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Azerbaijan today to express Ankara’s support for the country as the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh erupted, following a request from Armenia for help to Russia.
“We are once again in Baku with our brothers to reaffirm our firm support for our beloved Azerbaijan and to exchange views on the latest developments in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said in a Twitter post.

“I came by order of the president […] The president told us to stand by Azerbaijan in this process, to visit Baku often and to work together. “Defense Minister (Hulusi Akar), (President Erdogan’s close ally) Binali (Yıldırım) and others will also come,” the Turkish Foreign Minister added during a meeting with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev.
Yesterday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to enter into “urgent” consultations on possible Russian security assistance, citing the collective security pact linking the two countries.
