Ankara expects the European Union to “acknowledge its mistakes,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Tuesday.
Turkish foreign minister urges Brussels to understand the value of Turkey’s EU accession.
At the same time, in an interview with the Islamic newspaper Yeni Akit, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu noted that “we will not waste another 50 years discussing the bizonal and bicommunal federation of Cyprus.”
He also said that if Greece aws ready for exploratory talks, Turkey was also ready, while he argued that Greece’s objections to Oruc Reis’ investigations had no significance.
The Turkish minister said that any negative decision to be taken at the EU Summit would harm the EU, while he again described the positions of Greece as “maximalist” and stressed that the Turkish survey vessel were on a “Turkish continental shelf”.
Regarding the Cyprus issue, he noted that “the model of bizonal and bicommunal federation, which has been discussed for decades, has not resolved the Cyprus issue. It is obvious that he will not solve it in the future either. Neither we nor the Turkish Cypriots will not waste 50 years to negotiate a model that is not viable.”
Regarding Varosha issue, he said that “we believe that a new era will begin that will benefit everyone as a result of the work that will be carried out with respect for property rights.”
