The Monastery of Daphni will remain closed today, due to the problems recorded by the 5.1 earthquake in Attica.
In particular, the Ministry of Culture informs that “According to a newer inspection carried out in the afternoon after the aftershock (19/7), the competent Department of Antiquities of Western Attica in the Daphni Monastery found drop of mosaic tiles”.
The Monastery shall remain close on Saturday, July 20, so that the scientific staff of the Antiquity Service can examine the issue.
There was a first record of damage to the Daphni Monastery, which showed “precipitation of the eastern part of the northern outer enclosure and problems only at the plaster of the Monastery”.
