Archbishop Makarios of Australia officiated at the Service of the Holy Passion of the Lord, in the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation, in Redfern, Sydney, on Thursday afternoon in a solemn atmosphere.
During the Service, which took place behind closed doors, the Twelve Gospels, that is, the twelve gospel passages describing the events from the arrest to the burial of Jesus Christ were read, and the representation of the Crucifixion took place.
As the Service was broadcast live on the Internet, thousands of believers had the opportunity to watch with reverence the reading of the Twelve Gospels and the procession of the Crucified One, and to experience the dramatic events of the Lord’s Passion, listening to the hymns and the troparia that were chanted, as well as the breathtaking antiphon”Today is hung upon the Tree.”
