The election process for the appointment of a new Archbishop will follow the repose in the Lord of Archbishop Chrysostomos II on Monday morning.
Based on the Charter of the Church, this process is conducted in two stages: a) the election of the triprosopo, by universal suffrage, and b) the election of the Archbishop by the Holy Synod.
According to an article published by philenews.com, according to Article 23, on the date set by the locum tenens in the encyclical sent, elections are held, by secret universal suffrage, for the election of the triprosopo.
All Orthodox Christians over the age of eighteen who have been permanently resident in Cyprus for at least one year and are registered on the voter list, which is approved by the Holy Synod, have the right to vote.
Within five days, from the end of the deadline for the submission of the objections, the Holy Synod shall be convened by the locum tenens, shall evaluate them definitively, and shall then proceed to the validation of the results and the election of the triprosopo.
In the event of a tie, a draw shall be held during the session of the Holy Synod. Within three days of the election of the triprosopo, the Holy Synod shall be convened by the locum tenens for the election of the Archbishop.
The Archbishop is elected by the triprosopo, who gathered an absolute majority of the members of the Holy Synod.
If this is not achieved, the vote is repeated, at the same session of the Holy Synod, between the two persons, who voted in the majority, and the Archbishop is the one who receives the most votes.
In the event of a tied vote, a decision shall be taken by drawing lots.
