The Interreligious Council of Albania, which consists of representatives of the Orthodox Community, the Catholic Community, the Muslim Community, the Bektashi Community and the Evangelical Brotherhood, was awarded the “Sérgio Vieira de Mello” prize as recognition of promoting reconciliation and pursuing dialogue among religions, with a view to bringing Albanian society forward together, and distancing from ideologies of separation and division.
It is widely known that the religious communities in Albania undertake joint initiatives to raise the living and cultural level of the people and to promote peaceful coexistence.
Archbishop Anastasios of Albania leads the way in this direction, that is creative interventions for the spiritual and material welfare of the people, demonstrating that Orthodoxy has not stood still, by turning inward on itself, but understands the racial, cultural and religious diversity and is ready to take action.
