The struggle of the Greeks for freedom moved and inspired the European painters, who captured on the canvas important moments of the Greek Revolution.
“Greece on the Ruins of Missolonghi ” by Eugène Delacroix, “The oath of Lord Byron at the tomb of Marcos Botsaris” by Ludovico Lipparini, “The Souliotisses” by Ari Schaefer, “Andreas Miaoulis in the naval battle of Kos” is one of the most emblematic works of that period.
The Embassy of Greece in Bucharest, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Revolution and the 140th anniversary of Greek-Romanian relations, hung works by European painters around the perimeter of its building.
The outdoor exhibition, held under the auspices of the Greece 2021 Commission, is entitled “The Pan-European impact of the Greek Revolution of 1821 – The Sacrifices of the Greeks for Liberation Inspired Foreign Painters” and will last until the end of March.
