The Embassy of Greece in Sweden, in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Commission to Sweden, organized an event to celebrate International Greek Language Day.
At the event, held at the conference room of the Commission’s Delegation, Dr Lars Nordgren from the University of Stockholm highlighted the social value and benefit of knowing Greek today, stressing that it is essential for reading ancient texts and the Bible.
He also stressed that Greek language is also essential for understanding ancient inscriptions.
Finally, he pointed out that they are necessary for understanding and analyzing today’s society and history, especially in Europe and in large parts of the world. He also explained that languages and, in the first place, ancient Greek are a valuable tool in the search for self. The ancient Greek texts sought to answer the most fundamental questions of human existence, he added.
