Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew celebrated at the church of Saint Kyriaki in Kontoskali on Sunday, while patriarchal deacon James Krochak proclaimed the Divine Word.
Metropolitan Athenagoras of Kydonia, Chief Officialis, the president of the association of Kontoskalians in Athens, Christos Inepekoglou, and a number of believers attended the Divine Liturgy.
At the reception that took place in the community hall, Metropolitan Maximos of Selybria, the vice-president of the ecclesiastical committee, George Chondropoulos, and the Ecumenical Patriarch gave a speech.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, after congratulating Metropolitan of Selybria for his work, referred to the significance of the Feasts of the Church, which are a source of spiritual enrichment for the faithful and an opportunity for existential renewal, while he stressed the importance of women’s contribution to ecclesiastical life.
Then the Ecumenical Patriarch went to the Monastery of the Life-Giving Font of the Theotokos in Balikli where he held a trisagion to the memory of one of his predecessors, Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras, upon the completion of 47 years from his death.
