The Archiepiscopal Vicar of Canberra, Archimandrite Prochoros Anastasiadis, visited the Greek Orthodox flock of Tasmania, before the beginning of the Great Lent and Shrove Monday.
With the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Arch. Prochoros paid his first official visit to the island state of Australia.
His first stop was Launceston, where on Saturday, March 13, Fr. Prochoros presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption of the Theotokos.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Prochoros performed the Sacrament of Confession for all, and later on, a luncheon was hosted in his honor.
On Cheesefare Sunday, March 14, Fr. Prochoros performed the Divine Liturgy in the Parish of the Holy Trinity, in Hobart.
After the Divine Liturgy followed the Sacrament of Confession.
In the afternoon of the same day, Fr Prochoros presided over the Vespers of Forgiveness at the Church of St. George, in Hobart, accompanied by Fr. Vassilios Verdos and Fr. Panagiotis Nikolakos.
At the end of the Service, he spoke to the congregation about its importance, as well as the importance of the Great Lent, while then clergy and faithful embraced and asked each other for forgiveness.
The same afternoon, Fr. Prochoros had a meeting with the President of the Greek Community of Tasmania, with whom they discussed issues related to the needs of the Church and the Community.
On Shrove Monday, the third and final day of his visit to Tasmania, Fr. Prochoros presided over the Divine Liturgy at St. George’s Church, took confessions of the parishioners, and then all together had lunch.
