Archbishop Makarios of Australia visited the Holy Monastery of Iviron on Mount Athos to preside over the Feast of the Holy Monastery on the feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos.
The Archbishop arrived at the Holy Monastery on the eve of the feast of the Mother of God, being officially received at the entrance of the Monastery by Abbot Nathaniel, the previous Elder Basil, and the brotherhood. He presided over the ceremony of the processional transfer of the miraculous icon of Panagia Portaitissa from the chapel to the Katholikon of the Monastery, then presided over the Vespers, the Orthros, and the Divine Liturgy, accompanied by the Hierarchs: Metropolitan Justin of Nea Krini and Kalamaria and Bishops Bartholomew of Arianzos, John of Palmyra (from the Patriarchate of Antioch) and Hierotheos of Efkarpia.
After the solemn Divine Liturgy, a festive luncheon followed, while in the afternoon of the main day, a memorial service was held together with the Vespers and the memorial service for the repose of the souls of the founders of the Monastery.
It should be noted that after the Vespers Service, the celebrating Holy Monastery was visited by the Chief Supervisor (Protepistatis) of Mount Athos, Stefanos, along with the members of the Holy Community, while the service was attended by the abbots Methodios of the Chilandari monastery, Tikhon of Stavronikita monastery, and Bartholomew of Esfigmenos monastery.
