The Patriarchal Vicar, Metropolitan Narcissus Accra, warmly welcomed the 41st Athens Scout Unit of Ampelokipi to the headquarters of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. The 10-day journey of the Scout Unit started with their visit to the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
It is one of the most important journeys for all Greek scouts abroad, as the head of the 12-strong delegation, Maria Garaki, stated.
“This is a unique experience,” Maria Garaki stressed while referring to the desire of the Athenian scouts to visit the Greek community of Egypt, Alexandria, Cairo and the Saint Catherine’s Monastery. This journey aims to let the Athenian scouts discover and learn the history of the Greek community in Egypt where scouts from Greek diaspora distinguished themselves valiantly in the history of the Scout Movement.
Thus, the Athenian scouting delegation, accompanied by the local Alexandrian scouts of the Greek community as well as the senior scout and architect Greg Saatsoglou, had the opportunity to visit the Museum and the Library of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and to admire the cultural treasure preserved there. Metropolitan Narcissus of Accra and the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, Fr. Nicodemus Totkas, showed the scouts around.
The scouts of the 41st Athens Ampelokipi System also visited the Cavafy Museum and Shatby which is the headquarters of the Greek Community of Alexandria and the Greek Scouts of Alexandria.
The Athenian scouts will also visit Cairo and shortly afterwards the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai.
