Silence is the mother of prayer and contributes to the preservation of the divine fire, the surveillance of the thoughts, the cultivation of the memory of death, the formation of divine theories, and the increase of spiritual knowledge and progress.
The friend of silence approaches God, and by conversing with Him in secret, is enlightened by Him.
It was the silence of Jesus that created respect in Pilate. In the same way, the calm and silence of a humble man abolish the vainglorious boasting of another.
He blessed silence and praised it with verbiage.
