The Romanian Patriarchate sent a humanitarian transport to Syria on Wednesday, to help people affected by the February earthquake.
The aid was loaded onto a Romanian Air Force plane that took off from Otopeni Airport, bound for Beirut.
The packages contained blood pressure monitors, glucometers, powdered milk, canned food, mattresses, and other essential supplies. The value of the shipment amounted to 52,000 Euros.
Father Ciprian Ioniță, Patriarchal Counsellor and coordinator of the Social-philanthropic sector of the Romanian Patriarchate accompanied the shipment to Syria, where he met representatives of the Patriarchate of Antioch and of the Lebanese Red Cross.
“This action is part of our ‘Help with Joy’ campaign. At the initiative of Patriarch Daniel, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church approved a fundraiser for the people affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. We contacted the representatives of the Patriarchate of Antioch, who told us what products they needed,” said Fr Ciprian Ionita.
The aid in Wednesday’s shipment was collected through the Romanian Patriarchate’s “Help with Joy” campaign, which ran from February 11 to March 4.
