Pantocrator Monastery in Teleorman County will celebrate its patronal feast next Sunday when the Orthodox Church remembers the Holy Myrrh-bearers. On this occasion, several fragments of holy relics and an icon of the Mother of God will be transported from Greece.
The Honourable Head of Saint Thomas the Apostle will be brought to the monastery in Teleorman on April 28 and remain there until May 2. The reliquary with the Apostle’s honorable head is kept at the Greek Monastery of Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist in Patmos.
The reliquary with the right hand of Saint Catherine from the city of Katherini, Greece, will also be brought to Romania. In addition, the relics of Saint Mary Magdalene kept in the heritage of the monastic settlement will be displayed for veneration.
The icon of the Mother of God from Meteora Monastery will also be brought to this year’s patronal feast. The icon depicts the Theotokos with Jesus Christ dressed in imperial robes. Also, the Mother of God is represented holding a grain of wheat in her right hand and flowers in her left.
Pantocrator Monastery is dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist and the Holy Myrrh-bearers. The place of worship of the monastic settlement was consecrated on September 26, 2015.
