HRH Princess Sophie of Romania met with His Eminence Metropolitan Petru of Bessarabia at the diocesan center in Chisinau on Monday.
Her Royal Highness was accompanied by Romania’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Cristian-Leon Ţurcanu.
Diocesan adviser Archdeacon Mihail Sturza briefed the Princess on the Metropolis’s most significant projects and prospects as part of the welcoming group.
HRH Princess Sophie expressed her interest in the social-philanthropic work of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Bessarabia.
His Eminence Metropolitan Petru thanked the Princess for the visit and presented her with a silver icon of the Mother of God, the Protectress of all Christians.
HRH Princess Sophie presented the Metropolitan of Bessarabia with her photo album “The Romanian Monastery. Celebrating Romania’s spiritual communities.”
“This meeting highlights the solid connection between the Royal House of Romania and the Romanian Orthodox Church in Bessarabia, two institutions that have a crucial role in consolidating identity and spiritual unity,” the Metropolis noted.
Princess Sophie is the fourth daughter of King Michael and Queen Anne of Romania. She was born in Athens on October 29, 1957. She studied in Switzerland and Great Britain, then attended Fine Arts courses at the University of North Carolina, Asheville, and in graphic design and photography at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC.
As vice-president of the Royal Margaret Foundation of Romania, Princess Sophie was essential in identifying important projects, fundraising campaigns throughout the United States, and organizing humanitarian aid.
