The Metropolis of Hydra strongly reacted to the decision of the hierarchs of the Metropolis to concelebrate the Divine Liturgy with Metropolitan Onufriy in Kiev, Ukraine, since they had kept the reason for their visit to Ukraine from the Metropolitan of Hydra.
In particular, Fr. Theologos from the Osiou Grigoriou monastery of Mount Athos and Fr. Nikolaos Savvopoulos, clergyman from the Metropolis of Hydra, requested and received permission from the Metropolitan of Hydra to participate in a “pilgrimage visit to the monasteries of Ukraine”.
However, as reported in an announcement issued by the Metropolis, “they hid their fraudulent plan to concelebrate with Metropolitan Onufriy and their intention to declare loyalty to the Patriarchate of Moscow and condemn the actions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.”
In the same announcement, it is further stated that these priests were guilty of misconduct, deceived their Metropolitan, and they had acted beyond their remit under the canon law.
It is concluded that these are “violations that reveal the ethos of the two clerics and incur penalties as provided for by the canon law.”
