Cardinal Konrad Karajevski, the Papal Almoner, handed over to the Caritas Hellas a generous donation from the Pope.
According to the Vatican’s website, Vatican news, the 100,000 euros offered by Pope Francis are to support the project of the Greek Catholic humanitarian aid organization for refugees and migrants.
The Polish Cardinal conveyed the “love of the Pope” to the children living in Lesvos refugee camps, as he said in an interview with Vatican News. Pope Francis will also help to build a playroom for children. Still, this is not the only gesture that proves how close the Pope is to the migrants of Lesvos, because in order to support “the precious work of Caritas Hellas,” the Pope donated 100,000 euros, which were received by the director of the charity organization of the local church , Maria Alberta.
The refugees hosted in the camps are mostly Afghans, Iraqis, Iranians, Syrians and North Africans: altogether 70,000 are in Greece, of which 14,000 in various Greek islands and more specifically 7,000 in Lesvos.
