The new Constitution of the Archdiocese of Australia was unanimously approved today, Thursday, August 29, 2024, during the meeting of the Holy Synod, presided over by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Archbishop Makarios of Australia was invited to participate in the discussion, where he addressed the questions and concerns raised by the synod members. His presence was considered crucial, as he offered valuable clarifications and insights regarding the new Constitution, which represents a significant advancement for the ecclesiastical governance in Australia. Following the discussion, Archbishop Makarios received heartfelt congratulations from the Synod members in recognition of his dedicated efforts.
Subsequent to the approval of the Constitution, the Holy Synod proceeded with the election of two new auxiliary bishops. The following individuals were appointed:
- Archimandrite Maximos Rudko, Protosyncellus of the Metropolis of Austria, was elected as assistant bishop under the Diocese of Aristi. Archimandrite Maximos will assist Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria in his duties.
- Archimandrite Evangelos Pata Tuktuk was elected as assistant bishop under the Diocese of Sasima. He will collaborate closely with Metropolitan Iakovos of Mexico, bolstering the spiritual and administrative functions of the Metropolis.
