Church intensifies prayer and action to help those affected by pandemic
In the context of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and the state of national emergency, following the appeal of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the hierarchs, priests and volunteers among the believers of the Romanian Orthodox Church have intensified the social-philanthropic actions for vulnerable people and those affected by the pandemic.
The concrete, material assistance is intended mainly for the elderly and the poor, sick or disabled, those temporarily in isolation or quarantine, but also to some medical institutions. The help consisted of donation and distribution of food, hygienic products and medical equipment.
Through the direct involvement of the eparchial centres, deaneries, parishes and monasteries, financial and material aid in the amount of 3,048,669 lei was offered between March 30 and April 3, 2020.
So far, the total contribution of the Romanian Patriarchate to helping all those hard tried by the epidemic amounts to 7,153,671 lei (1,480,000 Euros).
