On February 6, 2024, Serbian Patriarch Porfirije attended a ceremony at the Yugoslav Cinematheque to commemorate the 148th anniversary of the Red Cross of Serbia.
During the event, Patriarch Porfirije emphasized the profound connection between the cross and Christianity, symbolizing Christ’s crucifixion as a testament to God’s love, the triumph over death, and the promise of eternal life. He highlighted the cross as a symbol of suffering, resurrection, and salvation, representing the path to redemption and the victory of love over adversity.
Reflecting on the Red Cross’s 148 years of humanitarian work, Patriarch Porfirije praised the organization’s commitment to demonstrating the priceless value of humanity and the transformative power of faith expressed through love. He echoed this year’s Red Cross message, emphasizing the joy in giving and the rewarding nature of altruism.
