The Archbishop of Pec, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovac and Serbian Patriarch, Porfirije, celebrated his first official Patriarchal Liturgy this Sunday at St. Sava Cathedral.
The Divine Liturgy was concelebrated by the Vicar of the Patriarch, Bishop of Remezija Stefan (Šarić), Bishop of Dalmatia Nikodin (Kosović), Bishop of Slavonia Jovan (Ćulibrk), Bishop of Osijek-Polje and Baranja Heruvim (Đermanović), Bishop of Mohacs Isihija (Rogić) and Bishop of East America Irinej (Dobrijevic).
During his homily, Patriarch Porfirije said that he was still in shock and his hands were still shaking. And when he heard the singing of choir, he then realized what is happening, he felt the Grace of God.
He also added that the Eye of God valued man differently, valued him by heart. “Without that, we are not Christians, we are not human either.”
He asked those present to have his name in their prayers because, as he said: “I know deeply what a place the Lord has placed me in with love and grace.”
Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia called on the faithful to adhere to the prescribed measures in times of difficult epidemiological conditions and to take care of themselves and their neighbors, as well as to be obedient to their Church.
Also, he announced that he would perform a memorial service to his predecessor, Patriarch Irinej, who is buried in the crypt, and that he planned to serve memorial services to all of his predecessors, Patriarchs of Serbia.
