Patriarch Daniel of Romania welcomed the new Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Romania, Alfredo Maria Durante Mangoni, at the patriarchal residence in Bucharest on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.
Ambassador Mangoni thanked the Patriarch for the warm welcome and stressed the importance of meeting Patriarch Daniel, one of Romania’s prominent personalities.
According to the Ambassador, one of the key objectives of the Ambassador’s mission is to maintain and deepen Romania’s and Italy’s economic, social, and cultural connections.
Patriarch Daniel underscored the importance of the cultural and religious dimensions by providing scholarships for Romanian students pursuing theology studies.
These initiatives contribute to promoting a relevant pastoral ministry within the Romanian Orthodox communities in the Italian peninsula in the current context.
During the meeting, the Italian Ambassador emphasized how attitudes toward Romanians who temporarily or permanently reside in Italy have improved over the past twenty years, particularly thanks to their spiritual leaders. As a result, the Romanian community in Italy is currently viewed as dynamic and a model of social integration.
In conclusion, the Patriarch of Romania mentioned the presence of Italian communities in Romania who contribute with their experience to the development of several projects for the benefit of local communities, including by promoting a culture of volunteering, especially among young people, thus promoting altruism and solidarity in contrast to individualism in today’s society.
