The past, present, and future of the Greek Orthodox Arabic-speaking community of Daher in Cairo was honored today by Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, in the beautiful church of the Archangels, in the district of Daher in Downtown Cairo.
Through the “marriage” of Greek and Arabic Byzantine melodies, hundreds of believers were blessed by the Primate of Alexandria, who in turn honored the past, present, and future of the community.
Thus, the Primate of the African Orthodox Church performed the annual memorial service of its late President, Farid Huri, who reposed in the Lord about a year ago.
At the same time, the Patriarch of Alexandria symbolically honored the former President Robert Hosni, who served for many years from this position and handed him over his personal cane. Finally, the Patriarch of Alexandria offered the medal of the Lion of the Apostle Mark to the current President of this active community, Salem Kassis, who is also one of the three Vice Presidents of the Greek-speaking Orthodox throughout Egypt, representing more than 500 families in the region of Daher in Cairo.
In the presence of the Patriarchal Commissioner of Cairo, Metropolitan Nicodimos of Memphis, the Patriarchal Commissioner for the Arab-speaking, Metropolitan Nikolaos of Ermoupolis, the Consul General of Greece in Cairo, Maria Zisis, and President of the Greek-speaking Greek Orthodox, Claude Nakas, Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria unveiled plaques honoring two new premises of the parish, dedicated to late Farid Houri and former President Robert Hosni, with Arab-speaking scouts playing and chanting the Egyptian national anthem.
