On October 18, 2021, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa met the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by Elder Metropolitan Makarios of Nairobi (locum tenens of Metropolis of Kampala), Metropolitan Innocent of Burundi and Rwanda, Bishops Neophytos of Nyeri and Mount Kenya, Sylvester of Gulu and Eastern Uganda, the Patriarchal Vicar of Goma, Archim. Chariton, Archim. Elpidophoros Limnios and the African clergy.
The President welcomed the Patriarch, thanked him for the offer of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa both in Uganda and in the rest of Africa, especially during the difficult period of the COVID-19.
In his reply, the Patriarch of Alexandria thanked the president for the warm welcome and for his hospitality, informed him about the general missionary and pastoral activity of the Patriarchate, as well as about the humanitarian work on the African continent. He also thanked the president for his contribution to the local Church.
In addition, the Patriarch informed the president about the distribution of 20,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines by a Russian philanthropist, a friend of the Patriarch and the Patriarchate of Alexandria, which will benefit 10,000 people.
According to the Patriarch, he is in consultation with the Ugandan embassy in Rome on how they will be sent to the Ugandan health authorities.
In addition, the Patriarch referred to the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, whom he thanked for the love and protection he provides to the Patriarch and to the Patriarchate.
Finally, after thanking the president again for the hospitality, the Patriarch wished peace and prosperity to the people of Uganda.
The Patriarch of Alexandria, full of joy and spiritual delight, completed his missionary tour in Uganda and left for Bukomba, Tanzania, where he will continue his pastoral visits.
