The opening of the exhibition titled: “Our Sacred beauty. Byzantine icons from Thessaloniki” will take place at 20:30 on Thursday, July 18, 2019, in the Byzantine and Christian Museum. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni.
The exhibition, jointly organised by the Patriarchal Foundation of Patristic Studies, the oldest scientific institution of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and the Byzantine and Christian Museum, is under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos and will be part of the temporary exhibitions of the Byzantine Museum (Villa Illisia) from July 18 to October 31, 2019.
The exhibition “Our Sacred Beauty. Byzantine Icons from Thessaloniki”, was originally organised by the Patriarchal Foundation of Patristic Studies and hosted by the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of Vlatadon in Thessaloniki, on the 50th anniversary of the Patriarchal Foundation of Patristic Studies, and was opened by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
The purpose of the exhibition is the presentation of Byzantine icons from Thessaloniki and, consequently, the promotion of the city as one of the most important artistic centers of the Byzantine world, especially during the Palaiologan period, as well as the enduring relationship of Thessaloniki and the capital of Byzantium, Constantinople.
