Metropolitan Maximos of Sylivria, who is the bishop in charge of the District of Hypsomatheia, Vlanga and Kontoskalion, officiated the Divine Liturgy at Saint Kyriaki Church in Kontoskalion on Sunday, November 22.
During the Divine Liturgy, he ordained Deacon Alex Torrance, Professor of the University of Notre Dame, as presbyter.
Addressing the Metropolitan of Sylivria, the newly ordained presbyter said, among other things: “I thank His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch for the great blessing to receive the holy priesthood in this sanctified place. I also thank you from the bottom of my heart once again for all your patience and kindness towards me. I and many others respect you as a “rule of faith and an image of meekness”, as a stronghold of the Great Church of Christ, its ardent defender and its eminent child. May the example of your tireless self-sacrifice and dedication for the sake of our holy Orthodox faith always guide me.”
