The Holy Great-martyr George the Victory-Bearer was commemorated in the city of Berane, Montenegro.
The patron and protector of the monastery in the area was commemorated by hundreds of worshippers who joined the procession, ignoring the restrictive measures.
A great number of worshippers and clergy from the gathered on the city’s main street, despite state-imposed measures regarding the ban on outdoor gatherings. They were protesting and shouting: “We will not abandon our sacred religious traditions!” The suspension of the procession in honour of St. George was the first among the restrictive measures against the coronavirus pandemic that reminded the protests of the Serbian people earlier this year.
Bishop Ioannikios said that the people expressed their love for St. George and emphasised that true faith was manifested in times of ordeal, such as the martyrdom of St. George.
