The anniversary of the proclamation of the Revolution in Roumeli (March 27, 1821) was celebrated with splendour at the Byzantine Monastery of Saint Lucas, on March 31.
On the morning of Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross, the Divine Liturgy led by Metropolitan Georgios of Thebes, was performed at the Katholikon of the Virgin Mary, next to it.
After the end of the Divine Liturgy, a Doxology, officiated by Georgios, was held in the Katholikon, where 198 years ago the Revolution in Roumeli was declared.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the national revolution for independence in Roumeli, the Metropolitan referred to patriotism, which is not nationalism, stressing that this love for our homeland gave us a historical continuity as a nation.
