Metropolitan Nikolaos of Philippopolis (Plovdin) asked the president of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, to include religious classes in Bulgarian public schools.
During his speech, Metropolitan Nikolaos, on the event of the completion of 150 years since the establishment of Holy Trinity Church, referred to the significance of religion in man’s life.
“Divorces, surrogate motherhood, same-gender marriage, civil partnership, are the outcome of people’s detachment from God. We must save our children and, as Jesus Christ said ‘Let the little children come to me, and stop keeping them away”, emphasized, inter alia, Metropolitan Nikolaos.
With these arguments, Metropolitan of Philippopolis called on the President of Bulgaria to include even one hour of religious classes in schools, stressing that it is necessary because children are vulnerable to modern society’s immoralities.
From his part, President Radev said that we need courage and spiritual strength. “The support of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the spiritual well-being of the faithful remains the first priority for the State,” concluded Mr. Rumen Radev.
