Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos gave an interview at the Alpha Cyprus TV station about the new draft law on the salaries of the Orthodox clergy in the countryside.
“The present draft law never became law for one reason or another or due to situations of pressure. This agreement exists since 1971,” the Metropolitan of Paphos mentioned.
Metropolitan Georgios added: “It is more convenient for the government in this way. We will not appropriate these funds. The Church will not deceive the State authorities. The public subsidy, given to the Church, will be shared out as it should, and there will be no misappropriation. I think that those believing that the Church will be lying to and duping the State are exaggerating.
