The National Day of March 25 was celebrated with honor in Kalamata.
After the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia officiated a Doxology at Ypapanti Church.
There followed a wreath deposit at the War Monument, in the Square of March 23.
In his announcement, Metropolitan of Messinia claimed that today is a day of remembrance and teachings: “Especially for those who believe that they can have geopolitical and geophysical rights and have forgotten that in 1821 the Greeks fought against all those who claim such rights today”.
Metropolitan also stressed that the Greeks were never reduced to slavery, and sent a message of awakening and unity to all.
The government was represented in the celebration by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georgios Katrougalos.
