Metropolitan Seraphim of Kythera was arrested after deciding to open the Church of Estavromenos yesterday. Moreover, as he was performing the services, the bells were ringing so as to call the faithful to come to the church.
The Metropolitan’s decision was contrary to the government’s decision regarding the suspension of all daily services due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Metropolitan, after arriving at the police station of the island, told the police that he had not yet received the encyclical sent by Archbishop Ieronymos.
Finally, the Metropolitan was set free by order of the General Prosecutor, after a case file was opened.
