Following canonical permission and the blessing of Pope and Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria, Metropolitan Theodore of Brazzaville and Gabon presided over the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Additionally, he performed the Ordination of a new Presbyter. Fr. Gregory Samiotakis was ordained as a presbyter at the Church of St. Demetrios in Lamia.
During the ordination ceremony, the presence of Archimandrite Fr. Grigorios Papoulas, Head of the Church of the Holy Unmercenaries of Thessaloniki, added to the solemnity of the occasion. The newly ordained Priest, Fr. Grigorios, will undertake missionary work in close collaboration with Metropolitan Theodore of Brazzaville and Gabon.
In his paternal homily addressed to Father Gregory, Metropolitan Theodore emphasized the significance of the priesthood’s rank and ministry, tracing back to the spiritual legacy imparted by the esteemed holy hierarch, Metropolitan Gregory III of Kastoria. Furthermore, Metropolitan Theodore highlighted the spiritual bond between Fr. Gregory and the local Shepherd, Metropolitan Symeon of Fthiotida, stressing the honor bestowed upon Fr. Gregory to receive the diaconate from his venerable hands, alongside his enduring love, friendship, and support.
Metropolitan Theodore concluded by pointing out the important role of his ministry in Africa, echoing the vision of Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria, who regards Africa as a “Continent of the future.” He emphasized the urgent need for fervent missionary endeavors and dedicated service to the Christians of Africa, as Fr. Gregory embarks on spreading the Gospel of Christ and Orthodox faith, exemplifying love and commitment in his ministry.
