In his pastoral message for Holy Pascha 2022, Metropolitan Petru of Bessarabia urges prayer for peace among peoples.
“I urge you to increase your prayers for peace among peoples so that the God of peace and mercy may enlighten through the Light of Resurrection the minds of the leaders of this world to stop the bloodshed and turn their faces to God, Who does not desire the death of the sinner, but his return with repentance and to enter the glory of the Heavenly Father.”
“The power of today’s weapons shakes and frightens us because they can do much harm to people, whereas the Good Lord has been urging us always: Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. (Psalm 34:13). So, peace is the only option for people if they want to live in harmony with God.”
To avoid war, we must also eliminate its causes, the Metropolitan of Bessarabia noted.
The causes of war stem from “injustice, violence, disregard, lack of freedom and dignity, oppression and the desire to become more powerful than others.”
“All these vices have always brought wars between peoples and even between brothers of the same blood,” the Metropolitan explained.
