Macedonia naming dispute is an issue of national interest and is strictly associated with the dignity of all Greeks and the freedom of thought, conscience and expression.
The aforementioned letter written by Metropolitan Nicholas was addressing to 22 Metropolitans who had explained their opinion on the Macedonia naming dispute a few days ago.
In his letter the Metropolitan clearly stated that he agreed with the opinion of the 22 Metropolitans of Macedonia while he expressed his gratitude for the hierarchs’ initiative.
As he underlines, fear that the great international interests will react, as well as hesitation for being accused for allegedly taking political stance, are both absent in the word of the 22 Hierarchs.
According to the Metropolitan Nicholas, this matter needs political management, while being spiritual at the same time, and therefore the word of the 22 Metropolitans is characterized by outspokenness, respect and honesty.
He also underlines that the agreements imposed arbitrarily, after being voted by narrow majorities under the pressure of foreign interests by ignoring the strong popular protests, cannot serve the truth and express respect. On the contrary, they cause irreparable historical damages.
