Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina: Cool heads and sobriety are recommended for all directions

Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina

By Romfea.news

Cool heads and sobriety are recommended for all directions by the Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina, regarding the naming of FYROM.

In his statements, Maximos points out that “a very dangerous for the region cocktail is being mixed, of which we must be aware… We have to weigh things and make the right decisions. It is not me who will say what is right, but we must be sober, not end up to extreme things and not get divided… Above all, we should not use such serious issues for political visibility. It is very important to keep a low profile and be very careful. Do not look for opportunities for cheap politicking.”

The Metropolitan of Ioannina explained that it is up to the people elected to decide on these issues. However, he underlined that for many decades, the politicians did not act in time, now Skopje has been recognized as “Macedonia” by 144 countries, and yet no action has been taken.

He also argued that the external pressures are mounting on geostrategic reasons for which it is considered important the accession of the Western Balkans to NATO and the European Union. As he stressed, “They will deter China’s economic invasion and Russia’s politics.”

It is worth mentioning that Metropolitan of Preveza has publicly been placed against the Prespes Agreement. More specifically, he said that this agreement was not a result of warfare but a result of the deliberate assignment of national law while Metropolitan Andrew of Konitsa referred to the agreement as “the sell-out of Macedonia” and opposed the concession on the name.
