Metropolitan Iobi of Urbnisi and Ruisi, who is a permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church, spoke about the war Russia is waging against Ukraine, questioning the true faith of the Russians.
“Today we are on the verge of the Third World War, you see what is happening in Ukraine and we may even get to a bigger war.
You see, today everything is exposed now. And you say, Russia is an orthodox country. And yes, it may be, but its leadership is not orthodox.
By their behavior, by their decisions, they are not even Christians. They are Christians only in words, not in deeds,” states the page “Ecclesiastical News of Georgia.”
As Metropolitan Ruisi stressed, “If we look at history, we will see that the Russians have brought no good to anyone.
In the case of Georgia, they killed our Patriarchs, exiled the priests, persecuted the temples, forbade us to pray in our mother tongue and took away our autocephaly. Therefore, we can clearly see who the Russians are, of course, this does not apply to everyone,” said Metropolitan Iobi.
It is worth mentioning that Metropolitan Iobi is also one of the first hierarchs of the Patriarchate of Georgia who supported the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine.
In 2019, Metropolitan Iobi sent his representatives to Kyiv to Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, conveying congratulations and wishes.
